Available courses

The aim of the course is to develop the knowledge, skills and competence of coaches when coaching at tournaments and competitive events. The course is divided into 3 modules.

1. Pre- Competition 

2. Competition Mat-Side Coaching

3. Post Competition 

The course is self-directed learning and is delivered online. Upon the successful completion of the course the coach will be issued with a IJA course completion certificate and entered on to a register of IJA approved mat-side coaches 

The aim of the course is for coaches of the Irish Judo Association (IJA) to gain an understanding of the IJA Back to the Mat Guidelines and to mitigate the risk of Covid-19 infection as much as possible at club level. 

All IJA coaches must complete the course and assessment requirements. Upon successful completion of the course coaches will receive a certificate of completion from the IJA.

 


People new to coaching, volunteers who help with clubs / young coaches who are assisting experienced coaches in a supervised capacity.

This Intro to Coaching Judo award is certified by Sport Ireland and is a practical course designed for junior members, aspiring coaches and registered club volunteers who wish to get more involved in their clubs in a supervised coaching capacity. Junior coaches will be certified to work alongside existing coaching teams of Level 1 and Level 2 certified coaches to support and help manage larger numbers on the mat.

The aim of this course is to provide assistant coaches with:

1. The ability to introduce participates to sport in a safe enjoyable and progressive way

2. An all round ability on which participates will base future involvement in the sport

3. Specific coaching capacities in 6 areas and be able to provide specific assistance to players/athletes in thoses areas

The aim of this course is to provide coaches with

1. The ability to deliver coaching sessions in the ‘Training to Train’ phase of the LTPAD model

2. Expertise to aid and guide participants up to and including underage national level competition/high standard of regional adult club competitio

3. Knowledge and experience for them to decide where their abilities best place them in the LTPAD model and whether to pursue the ‘development’ or ‘performance’ route in relation to the players/athletes they coach

4. The ability to develop player/athlete capacities in the Training to Train phase of the LTPAD model
